Marine microbiologist at the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine

Maria has devoted 17 years to researching the environment and marine ecosystems and now, as a researcher at the National Antarctic Research Center, she is actively studying the microbiome of the Black Sea and the Southern Ocean. In 2019, she participated in an expedition to the Akademik Vernadsky station. In 2022 she conducted a study to assess the impact of the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP dam on the microbiological pollution of the Black Sea. Maria collaborates with the InScience, Stem is Fem projects, and conducts lectures for children about the Black Sea.

I am fascinated by how Carl Linnaeus, the author of the taxonomy of living organisms, could see such an elegant system in the diversity of life. It would definitely be interesting to have coffee with such an extraordinary person.

I would like to return to the Karadag Nature Reserve in Crimea. It was from this picturesque place that my passion for marine biology and science in general began.

It's annoying when there are so many tasks that multiply exponentially :) But I learned to take a deep breath, break down huge tasks into small ones, and slowly move towards the goal.

At times when I am scared, I support or organize fundraising and help volunteers I know, and it becomes easier.

High-quality education is about freedom of choice in the future.

I really want my child to have all the tools for their development and self-realization.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. The search for truth often begins with a question.

Now I am inspired by Ukrainian scientists who, despite the war, continue to work actively and have a strong social position.

When I get stuck in solving a problem, I take a time out and switch to having time with my family with my family.
